Healthy Downey is a community collaborative that focuses on health and nutrition, creating a sustainable approach to wellness that will positively impact current and future generations through forming partnerships with committed community stakeholders.

Telecare Corporation- Discoveries Program Center for the Assessment and Prevention of Prodromal States (CAPPS)

Identify and treat adolescents and young adults who are at high risk for developing major mental illness associated with psychotic symptoms.

Target age group: Adolescents and young adults between the ages of 16 and 25

Their services include:

  • Screening and assessment for early warning signs of mental health issues
  • Family Focused Treatment- 18 sessions
  • Case management and linkage
  • Medication support services

The Human Services Association are looking for people who:

  • Speak English or Spanish
  • Are a parent/caregiver of children(s) 5 and under
  • Are interested in making their community a healthier place

You will be part of parenting workshops, parent group meetings, grocery store tours, and food demonstrations.

Mayor's Healthy Heart Award

Mayor Fernando Vasquez is recognizing individuals or organizations who are committed to improving the lives of others within the City of Downey. The Mayor recognizes that countless individuals, in various professions make differences in others lives that contribute to improving their emotional, mental and physical health. Nominees can also be businesses that are committed to helping others improve their overall health and wellness.

If selected by the Mayor, the person(s)/business will receive their award at a future Council Meeting during the ceremonial portion of the meeting.

The City of Downey's Adult Walking Club Ages 40 +

Join our FREE Walking Club every Monday. Check-In from 11:30 AM - 11:45 AM. Walking Club will meet in front of the Barbara J. Riley Community and Senior Center and will include 2 laps around the community center. *Weather permitting*
