Mayor's Healthy Heart Award
Mayor Fernando Vasquez is recognizing individuals or organizations who are committed to improving the lives of others within the City of Downey. The Mayor recognizes that countless individuals, in various professions make differences in others lives that contribute to improving their emotional, mental and physical health. Nominees can also be businesses that are committed to helping others improve their overall health and wellness.
If selected by the Mayor, the person(s)/business will receive their award at a future Council Meeting during the ceremonial portion of the meeting.

The City of Downey's Adult Walking Club Ages 40 +
Join our FREE Walking Club every Monday. Check-In from 11:30 AM - 11:45 AM. Walking Club will meet in front of the Barbara J. Riley Community and Senior Center and will include 2 laps around the community center. *Weather permitting*

Fun activities such as: interactive game zone, environmental fair, fitness demonstrations, food booths, carnival games, mobile skate park, rockwall, dunk tank, toddler town (2-5 years) and MORE!
Teen Challenge- Open to middle and high school participants. Teams of 4 compete through eight obstacles to win cash prizes! Register on event day by 12:30 PM at the volunteer booth located in the carnival area. Challenge begins promptly at 1 PM.
Family Stroll- Registration and check-in will begin at 9:45 AM. Run begins at 10:30 AM. The route is a half mile. All participants will receive a goodie bag that includes healthy and fit promotional items.
FUN RUN- Registration and check-in will begin at 9:45 AM. Run begins at 11 AM. The run will be a 2K (1.3 miles) around Apollo Park. The first 25 participants will receive Fun Run medals and goodie bag giveaways. All others will receive a ribbon of participation. Refreshments will be served at the finish line!

Learn how food is grown and consumed in the U.S. by hosting a food film screening and watch films such as "Food Inc" and "Supersize Me".
