Frequently Asked Questions Q. Do I need a permit to remodel my home or business? A. Most residential, commercial, and industrial construction work on private property require building plans and permits; this includes new, remodeled, and added construction or alterations to a property. A property owner may apply for a permit, including building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical or miscellaneous, as an "owner-builder" if the owner lives on the property. If the owner does not live on the property, the owner is only allowed to apply for a building permit. For further information please contact the Building Division.
