| | The City of Downey is honoring the brave men and women who are serving in the Armed Forces through a Military Banner Program. The program is designed to support, recognize, and express appreciation for Downey residents who are currently active in the U.S. Military serving overseas or who have given their lives in service overseas during the most recent military actions.
In order to qualify for the program, honorees must meet two general guidelines: - First, the honoree must be on active overseas duty with any branch of the United States Military services.
- Second, the honoree must be a resident or family member of a resident, or have been a resident for some period before age 21 years old.
Donations are accepted to defray cost of the banners. Family members, residents, organizations and business owners can make donations in any amount to honor an individual for their service.
Each banner will list the honorees’ name and branch of service and will be proudly displayed along Firestone Blvd. between Brookshire Ave. and Paramount Blvd.
