The Economic Development Division of the City of Downey is responsible for growing the local Downey economy.  A strong local economy with a diversity of businesses and quality jobs is good for the quality of life in Downey.  Economic Development staff members strive to make Downey a business friendly city where businesses want to locate and remain.  Economic Development staff members oversee and implement several programs and initiatives to facilitate economic development in Downey.  These programs include:

REDEVELOPMENT
There are two redevelopment project areas in Downey.  To view a map of each of these project areas, use the navigation bar at the left.  Redevelopment resources are invested in strategic economic development projects that create jobs, contribute to the City's tax base, and alleviate blighting influences in the project areas.  Redevelopment funds are also spent on public improvements throughout the project areas. 

BUSINESS ATTRACTION AND RETENTION
Economic Development staff members work with existing Downey businesses to locate new businesses in Downey and assist local businesses to grow and expand.  

ENTITLEMENT AND PERMIT PROCESSING
Economic Development works closely with new and current businesses top assist them in gaining necessary land use entitlements and other permits as necessary.
