Family Ties
I have long-time Downey roots - my grandparents purchased their home in Downey in 1947. Both of my parents graduated from Warren High School. I was born in Downey, raised in Washington, and returned to California and attended and graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a BA in Aquatic Biology and a Masters in Education.
My wife was raised in and attended Downey schools and graduated from Long Beach State University. We have two boys; Blake 6, Cole 5, both born at Downey Regional Hospital. My wife is currently a 5th grade teacher at Carpenter Elementary School.
Professional Ties
After graduation, I moved back to Downey to teach at Downey High School. I taught high school science there for 8 years. I then completed my administrative credential and was hired as Vice Principal of the Downey Adult School. Four years ago I was appointed and currently serve as Principal of Downey Adult School. I am very active in adult education with several professional organizations at both the local and state level.
Community Ties
For the past 8 years, I served as the District 5 (city-wide) Planning Commissioner for the City of Downey. For the past 5 years I have been active with the American Cancer Society's 24 hour Relay for Life event that last year raised over $100,000 for cancer patient care and research. I am an active Rotarian and am currently serving my second year as Youth Director on the Downey Rotary Board. I was also recently appointed to Cerritos Community College's Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee.
