On Monday, June 4, 2012, Downey Fire responded to the intersection of Stewart & Gray and Old River School Roads for a reported traffic collision. Downey Fire Paramedics extricated a male and female victim from the wreckage and transported them to Saint Francis Medical – Trauma Centers in critical condition where both individuals latter died from their injuries.

On Saturday, May 19, 2012 Downey Fire responded to the 11100 block of Paramount Boulevard to a reported structure fire. Downey Fire received reports of smoke inside Pina’s Pizza. Downey Fire crews encountered an electrical sub-panel fire in an adjacent business, Stewart's Liquor. The fire had extended into the walls and roof rafters. The concealed fire was difficult to locate and extinguish. Downey Fire remained on-scene for 3 hours to conduct overhaul operations.

Downey Truck 611 hoisted the American Flag at the Start-Finish line at the Stonewood Shopping Center on Firestone Boulevard; and Engine 64 led the participants onto Lakewood Boulevard with lights and siren to kick-off the event. On Sunday, March 11, Downey Fire responded to the 12000 block of Lakewood Blvd. for a reported vehicle into a structure. Upon arrival, Engine 62 found a mini-van, driven by an elderly male, had gone through the front portion of a restaurant’s bar. The vehicle had trapped a female patron between a fixed table and the impacted wall. Downey Fire was able to extricate the victim who was treated and transported by Downey Paramedics to an area hospital.

On Saturday, November 19, 2011 Downey Fire responded to the 7600 block of Pivot Street to a reported Gun Shot Victim. Upon arrival, Downey Fire Engine 61 found two adult males suffering from multiple gun shot wounds. Paramedics initiated advance life support and transported the victims to St. Francis Medical-Trauma Center in critical condition.

On November 15th at 3:49 pm Downey Fire Department units responded an enhanced commercial structure fire response to the 10400 block of Paramount Blvd. Joint Powers Communications Center advised flames reported seen from the roof of the large multi-building apartment complex. Upon Engine 61's arrival, they reported smoke showing to the rear of the complex. Hose lines were deployed to a 2nd floor involved apartment unit. Additional companies performed search operations while the adjacent exposures were protected and truck operations completed. The fire was quickly contained and extinguished. Upon knockdown, one firefighter reported injuries requiring paramedic treatment on-scene, and was quickly transported to a local hospital for further medical care.

On Wednesday, November 9, 2011 Downey Fire responded to a reported apartment fire in the 9100 block of Florence Avenue. Upon arrival, Downey Fire made way to the 3rd floor where they found the hallway charged with heavy smoke. Flames were observed emanating from an apartment unit and extending into the common hallway. The fire was knocked down within 10 minutes of arrival.

Upon arrival, Engine 63’s was informed of a dryer fire on the first floor. The fire was contained to the dryer area as a result of an activated sprinkler head. The Fire Prevention Bureau followed up to ensure the sprinkler and fire alarm system was properly restored.

Downey Fire Engine 62 arrived on-scene to find a single automobile had driven into the rear wall of a strip center building resulting in a natural gas leak inside the structure. Engine 62 quickly secured the utilities and requested an enhanced commercial response.
