The Downey Fire Department participated in a multi-agency Regional Response Asset Drill at the Downey Studio Lot on November 12-13. Downey’s USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) equipment was deployed along side the Hazardous Materials Task Forces from area departments. The agencies present trained on four separate simulated disaster scenarios. The drills focused on testing the multi-disciplinary coordination between Fire, Law Enforcement, and other various CalEMA Region I agencies. Participating agencies included Fire Departments from Los Angeles County, Los Angeles City, Downey, Long Beach, Vernon, Santa Fe Springs, Alhambra, Burbank, Glendale, Santa Monica, Orange County, Ventura County, and Camp Pendleton. Also present were members of the FBI, LAPD, and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
