Power Pole Down with Vegetation Fire - Lakewood Blvd.

On Sunday, February 13, 2011 at 15:33 hours, Downey Engine 64 responded to reported blown transformer in the 9500 block of Lakewood Blvd.  Upon arrival, Engine 64 reported a vegetation fire and hazmat release of transformer oil resulting from a fallen Edison power pole into the southbound lanes of Lakewood Blvd.  Engine 64 isolated the area from the public, quickly extinguished the vegetation fire and contained the oil runoff from entering the storm drain system.  Edison responded to the location and determined the spilled oil contained no PCBs.  Edison subsequently restored power to the area within 1 hour, replaced the damaged pole and conducted the necessary clean-up of the oil release.
