Traffic Accident with Persons Trapped - Paramount & Alameda

On March 26, 2011 at 00:13 hrs, Downey Engine 61, Squad 641, Truck 611, under the command of BC 604 (Gillaspie) responded to a reported traffic collision with overturned vehicle at Paramount - Alameda.  Upon their arrival, Downey Fire found a single vehicle on its roof with severe damage as a result of striking a tree along the sidewalk.  Three of the four vehicle occupants were able to self-extricate from the vehicle upon Fire’s arrival.  However, a 19 y/o male, suffering from severe head trauma, remained trapped inside the vehicle.  Truck 611 immediately began extricating the trapped patient with Engine 61 triaging the other patients, all of whom had sustained minor, non-life threatening injuries.  Upon removal from the vehicle, the critically injured patient was rapidly assessed and treated by Squad 641 paramedics with Paramedics from Truck 611 and Engine 61 assisting.  The patient was transported to St. Francis Medical-Trauma Center in Lynwood for further evaluation.
