Downey Finalist for All America City Award

 

The City of Downey is proud to announce it has been named as one of the finalists for the All America City Award. “Our City is honored to be among one of the finalists for the All America City Award and it is all due to our community’s hard work and dedication,” said Mayor Luis Marquez, “We are excited for the opportunity to be part of the final competition and it will be our time to demonstrate why Downey is such a unique place to live and why it is a role model city.”

Downey and 25 other communities will make a final presentation Kansas City, Missouri in June to demonstrate why it the City worthy of this prestigious award. Said Councilmember Mario Guerra, “We’ve always known that Downey is an All-American City, and this is terrific recognition of our residents’ commitment to our community and an affirmation of the hard work of our Council and staff.”

The National Civic League, a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to “strengthen democracy by increasing the capacity of groups and individuals to participate fully in and build healthy and prosperous communities,” sponsors the All America City Awards. Awards are given each year to 10 communities across the U.S. that exemplify civic accomplishments through innovation, inclusiveness and collaboration. The list of 26 finalists, which also includes the California cities of Dublin, Huntington Park, Torrance and Yucaipa, range from large urban centers and midsized cities to smaller suburban and rural communities across the nation.
