Retirement Home Fire – Dolan Ave.

On Saturday, September 24th at 01: 10 hrs, Downey Engine 63 responded to an assistance request to re-set the fire alarm system at Downey Retirement Center, located at 11500 Dolan Ave.  Upon Engine 63’s arrival, retirement home staff reported a dryer fire on the first floor of the building.  63’s crew entered the building and found the first floor hallway charged with smoke.  Dolan IC was established with Engine 63 requesting additional units.  Engine 63 initiated a fire attack with Truck 611 arriving to perform ventilation.  Paramedic Squad 641 sheltered the residents in place while fire crews located, contained, and extinguished the fire.  The fire was contained to the dryer area as a result of an activated sprinkler head.  Engine 62 assisted and checked for fire extension to the floor above.  Fire crews remained on scene for approximately 1 ½ hours.  The Fire Prevention Bureau followed up to ensure the sprinkler and fire alarm system was properly restored.
