On Friday, October 7, 2011 at 08:25 hours, Downey Engine 64, 63, Squads 641 and 642 with Truck 611 under the command of Battalion 604 (B/C Haupt) responded to Old River School Road and Rio Flora for a reported vehicle collision with persons trapped. Truck 611 utilized their “jaws of life” to remove the car’s door and dashboard in order to gain access. A 21 year old female driver was extricated from the vehicle, placed in cervical spine precautions with advanced airway management implemented to support patient’s respirations. The female patient was transported by Downey Paramedics to St. Francis Medical-Trauma Center for further medical evaluation. A 72 yea old male driver of a second vehicle was treated at the scene and was also transported to St. Francis Medical Center for further evaluation.
