Hazardous Materials Spill – 605 Freeway

On Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at 14:49 hours, Downey Engine 63, Santa Fe Springs Engine 84 with Downey Hazmat 651 (Lee Kirby) responded to the southbound 605 freeway for a reported vehicle leaking fuel.  Upon arrival, fire units determined a big rig truck had lost 90-gallons of its diesel fuel from one of its fuel tank.  The spill had entered a storm drain catch basin on the freeway.  The extent of the release was determined to remain on CalTrans right-of-way and did not affect City of Downey’s storm drain system.  Downey 651 coordinated the proper notifications and clean-up operations with CHP, CalTrans and Los Angeles County Fire Health Hazmat.
