Operation "Save Our Seats"

Thieves continue to target third row seats from SUVs in Los Angeles County. On Saturday, November 3rd, 2012, the Downey Police Department will be conducting operation “Save Our Seats.”  This program will consist of Downey Police personnel removing and etching the license plate number of your vehicle onto the frame of the 3rd row seat.  This will be done in an inconspicuous place, not visible without looking underneath the seat. The manufacturer currently does not stamp or mark the seats with any sort of serial numbers.  By etching the license plate number of your vehicle onto the seat frame, law enforcement has a better chance of returning seats to their rightful owners and hopefully hold those accountable for committing the thefts.  This operation will take place in the west parking lot of the Downey Police station (10911 Brookshire Ave. Downey CA. 90241) between the hours of 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM.  The specifically targeted vehicles are newer model Chevy Tahoes, GMC Yukons and Cadillac Escalades; however, all vehicles with removable 3rd row seats are invited to attend.

If you plan to attend, please contact Detective Roberts by phone at 562-904-2334 or E-mail at  Notification is not a requirement, but requested so we can staff accordingly. The entire process is estimated to take approximately 15 to 20 minutes and is done free of charge.
