As a result of a fire that occurred on Monday, October 7th, the Suva Street Bridge (located in northwest Downey) remains closed. Inspectors from Los Angeles County are assessing the extent of the damages to determine whether or not the bridge can be re-opened, or if repair work is required. The official cause of the fire is still under investigation. The public is encouraged to use alternate routes. Please continue to check the City website for periodic updates. Thank You.
UPDATE on Thurs. 10/10/13 @ 3:30pm - Suva Street Bridge Now Open
The County has completed its inspection of the Suva Street Bridge and has concluded that it is safe to reopen, but it is recommending a 20-ton weight restriction. The Public Works Dept. has officially opened the bridge and posted 20-ton weight limit signs.
