Firestone Blvd. Improvement Project

Over the past few months, the City’s contractor has been diligently working on the first two phases of the Firestone Boulevard Improvement Project, from Old River School Road to Brookshire Avenue.  The first two phases of work include the storm water system improvements and the potable water system improvements.  The subsequent phases of work on the Firestone Boulevard Improvement Project include the concrete improvements; electrical and decorative street lighting improvements; landscape and irrigation improvements; pavement rehabilitation improvements; and site furnishings improvements.

The concrete improvement phase of the project began on March 3, 2014.  The concrete improvement phase includes the removal of existing median islands, sidewalk, curb and gutter, driveways in certain areas and construction of new median islands, as well decorative sidewalks and concrete seat-walls in the Downtown area.  It is anticipated that the concrete improvement work will be substantially complete by June 30, 2014.  As the construction activities progress work on the Firestone Boulevard Improvement Project, the other phases of work will commence.

The City understands that Firestone Boulevard Improvement Project construction activities will impose various inconveniences such as traffic congestion and temporary access restrictions on our local community, particularly our business owners.  Access to businesses will be maintained at all times, except when necessary construction precludes such access for reasonable periods of time.  Likewise, safe and adequate pedestrian passageways will be provided to the maximum extent possible.  Therefore, every attempt will be made to facilitate project completion and minimize disruption.

Your patience and cooperation is most appreciated.  The City looks forward to working collaboratively with the public and the contractors to attain outstanding results on this project.  Should you have any concerns or questions regarding this project, please feel free to contact the City’s Project Engineer, Mr. Desi Gutierrez at (562) 622-3468.
