Fresnillo, Zacatecas Mexico has become Downey's newest Sister City. The City of Downey was proud to host Fresnillo's delegation earlier this month as they visited different areas of the City. Mayor Mario A. Guerra and Council Member Luis Marquez provided the group, including Fresnillo's Mayor
David M. Avila, with a special tour of the City. Of the places visited were the Columbia Memorial Space Center, City Hall, Police and Fire Stations. The collaboration between the two cities will help exchange ideas in areas such economic development, outreach services, public safety, among others.
Some projects and activities between Fresnillo and Downey include sending firefighters to Fresnillo to train their counterparts in fire fighting and emergency rescue techniques, sending local youth soccer teams to play and distribute shoes and soccer balls to local youth, delivering medical supplies and equipment to seniors, and distributing toys to Fresnillo children.
Downey's other Sister Cities include Guadalajara, Valle of San Quintin, Ensenada and Alajuela, Costa Rica. The City of Downey is proud to be involved in the International Sister Cities Program and is excited to have the City of Fresnillo, Zacatecas as their 5th Sister City.
