Roof Fire – Cord Avenue

On Saturday, April 3, 2010, Engines 64, 61, 62, Truck 611, Squad 641, and Battalion 604 responded to a reported roof fire in the 10900 block of Cord Ave.  Upon arrival, Engine 64 found the fire had been extinguished by the homeowner.  According to the owner, he had started a fire in the fire place only to later observe that his wood shake shingle roof was on fire.  Downey Fire units removed approximately 16 square feet of wood shake shingles to check for fire extension, and determined the fire was contained to a weathered shake shingle.  Fire loss was estimated at $2,500.
