On May 14, 2010 at 05:13 hours, the Downey Fire Department responded to a reported traffic collision involving an overturned tanker truck at the intersection of Stewart & Gray Road and Regentview Avenue. Upon arrival, Downey Fire observed an overturned Propane tanker leaking product. Due to the hazardous situation involving the release of an extremely flammable material, a multi agency response, under the command of Downey Battalion 604 (Seely), was initiated. Hazardous Materials Teams from Santa Fe Springs Fire-Rescue, Vernon Fire and Long Beach Fire, along with fire resources from Montebello, Compton, and Los Angeles County, responded to assist Downey Fire in safely mitigating and abating the propane release. The leak was safely brought under-control and the incident resolved 13 hours later without any injuries to the public and/or first responders. The driver of the tanker sustained minor injuries in the accident and was treated at the scene by Downey Fire Paramedics.
