New Wilderness Park Parking Lot Fees
On June 11, 2013 the Downey City Council approved a new fee structure for Wilderness parking lots. Effective July 1, 2013 Downey residents can park for free. You must show proof of Downey residency (Driver's license or CA identificatoin card). City Council also adopted a $5 per vehicle Non-Resident fee. To allow our visitors ample notice a grace period has been implemented from from July 1-September 6, 2013 and non-residents will pay $2 per vehicle. Effective September 7, 2013 the non-resident parking fee will take effect at $5 per vehicle.
Note: I-5 expansion work will begin at Florence and the 5 Freeway in April 2014 and is scheduled to take place through October 2015 (18 months). Florence traffic lanes will be reduced and this will cause back-up around the 605 Freeway and Little Lake Road.
All reservations, please allow for extra time to get to the park entrance.
The Parks and Recreation Department provides supervision at various parks during the school year. Residents are encouraged to visit the parks and use the many facilities: ball diamonds, play equipment, fitness courses, basketball courts, picnic shelters and more. Alcohol is not permitted at any park site.
