November 3, 2026 General Municipal Election
 

General Municipal Elections are held in the City of Downey on the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November of even-numbered years.

The next General Municipal Election will take place on November 3, 2026, for two (2) Members of the City Council (one seat) from District No. 2 and 4, for a four (4) year term of office.

In order for a person to be eligible for candidacy for the office of Council Member, Downey City Charter Section 501 requires a person to be a registered voter and be a resident of the District for thirty (30) days prior to the first day which candidates for office are permitted to file Nomination Papers. Prior to issuing Nomination Papers, the voter registration of all prospective candidates will be verified by the Downey City Clerk with the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder.

Voter Registration Information

To be eligible to vote in California you must:

  • Be a United States Citizen
  • Be at least 18 years of age on or before the day of the election
  • Be a resident of the State of California
  • Not be in prison or on parole for the conviction of a felony

Register to Vote  or visit the Downey City Clerk’s Office Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to obtain a voter registration form. Persons 17 years of age may pre-register to vote.

Form 806 Public Official Appointments

The Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) requires each agency to post a single Form 806 (FPPC Regulation 18702.5).  Form 806 reports additional compensation that officials receive when appointing themselves to positions on other boards, commissions or committees of a public agency, special district, and joint power agency/authorities.  Each agency must post a single Form 806 listing all paid appointed positions including the date appointed, length of term and stipend amount.
