Election Overview

  • California is holding a Statewide Special Election on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

  • The California Legislature called this election through legislation proposing a constitutional amendment that was then signed into law by the Governor.

State Measure 50

  • What it is: A constitutional amendment allowing temporary changes to California's congressional district boundaries through 2030.

  • What it means for voters: If passed, some voters may be assigned to a different U.S. House district in future elections (including 2026).

  • What it does not do: It does not change voter eligibility, registration, or voting options.

  • Vote by Mail Period                             Monday, October 6, 2025, through Election Day

  • Last Day to Register to Vote             Monday, October 20, 2025

  • 11-Day Vote Centers Open                 Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.

  • All Vote Centers Open                         Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.

  • Election Day                                          Tuesday, November 4, 2025, 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

 Voter Registration Information

To be eligible to vote in California you must:

  • Be a United States Citizen
  • Be at least 18 years of age on or before the day of the election
  • Be a resident of the State of California
  • Not be in prison or on parole for the conviction of a felony

Register to Vote or visit the Downey City Clerk’s Office Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to obtain a voter registration form. Persons 17 years of age may pre-register to vote.
