The Engineering Division provides public works services such as capital project design, construction management, surveying, permitting, traffic engineering, transportation planning, and utility coordination. Its focus is cost‑effective service, public safety, asset protection, environmental stewardship, and community improvements. The division—comprising Office Engineering, Capital Improvements, Traffic Engineering, and GIS—reviews development projects, issues permits, maintains records and maps, and assists the public. It oversees street, grading, and drainage plans; inspects roadway construction; manages right‑of‑way and utility permits; provides GIS data; handles consultant contracts; supports legal needs; and administers NPDES requirements under the Clean Water Act.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide surveying, engineering, and construction management
  • Develop and implement the Capital Improvement Program
  • Secure federal, state, and local permits and support grant applications
  • Review plans for code compliance and inspect public roadway construction
  • Manage permits for water, sewer, storm drain, utility, and driveway work
  • Oversee subdivision plats and right‑of‑way improvements
  • Represent the City on transportation and bicycle safety committees
  • Maintain GIS data and provide mapping and technical information
  • Manage consultant and contractor agreements
  • Support litigation needs and administer stormwater/urban runoff program
