Keep Downey Beautiful Clean Ups are organized volunteer events where residents and city staff come together to improve and beautify shared public spaces. The goal is to create a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming environment for everyone who lives, works, and visits Downey. Cleanups take place at various locations throughout the City, and no registration is required. Please arrive by 8:45 a.m. to check in. Students can earn volunteer hours for their participation. Volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. 

During the Clean Up, participants work on activities such as:

• Picking up litter in parks, streets, and neighborhoods
• Removing debris or bulky items from public areas
• Cleaning sidewalks, alleyways, and other community-use spaces

These Clean Up are important because:

• They build pride and connection. Our residents feel more invested in our community when they help care for it.
• They improve safety and appearance. Clean, well‑maintained areas discourage vandalism and enhance quality of life.
• They promote environmental responsibility. These events help reduce pollution and protect natural spaces.
• And lastly, they encourage teamwork. Volunteers work side by side toward a shared goal.
