The Downey Police Department offers free stickers to help alert law enforcement personnel that they may be interacting with a person with special needs. The stickers are available free to the public and can be placed near the front door of a home or a car window. The Holiday Shop with a Cop: A community program that pairs police officers with underprivileged and at-risk children for a shopping spree during the holiday season.

The Downey Unified School District created the TLC Family Resource Center to help support our most vulnerable students and their families experiencing hardship and lacking basic health/social services. It was initially funded by a State Healthy Start grant awarded in 2000.
